Community Engagement

Community planting sessions involved volunteers, partners and local school children got involved in the planting, led by OASES, North East.

Impact

The woodland strengthens ancient woodland networks, boosts biodiversity, improves habitat connectivity and provides new green space for people and nature.

Design & Approach

Former grazing land – the design focuses on ecological restoration, using native species and strategic planting to extend ancient woodland and create diverse habitats. Delivery combines community involvement with professional forestry oversight.

Partnerships

The North East Community Forest led the project alongside the Woodland Trust, Durham Woodland Revival and OASES, North East, each bringing specialist expertise in design, delivery and community engagement.

Funding

Supported through the UK government Trees for Climate programme, enabling high quality, sustainable woodland creation.
