Details
| Timeline | Planting began in 2024 with 6 hectares. Another 9 were established in Spring 2025. The final phase is due to be completed this 2026 planting season. |
| Community Engagement | Members of the local community were involved in tree planting activities to encourage future generations to value trees and climate balance. |
| Impact | This planting will create a thriving environment that supports local wildlife, buffer ancient woodland, improve soil and water quality and hopefully inspire others to adopt regenerative agricultural practices. |
| Design & Approach | The tenant farmer wanted to create a farmed landscape of connectivity with a network of new woodlands and wetlands in which his cattle could graze. The design he envisioned respected existing wetland habitats used by ground nesting birds,and will enable the woodland flora and fauna to move more widely through the landscape. |
| Partnerships | Woodland Trust collaborated with the tenant farmer initially. The North East Community Forest then worked with the landowner and the Woodland Trust to secure Forestry Commission consent, achieving UKFS compliance. |
| Funding | Funded via the UK government Trees for Climate Grant, and part-funded by Carma, an organisation committed to social and environmental impacts through tree planting. |
